The 10/66 Dementia Research Group Population-Based Cohort Study investigates the lives of older people in 8 study sites in low and middle-income countries with the aim of providing evidence for policy development and reform. Beginning in 2005, 10/66 Peru recruited participants aged at least 65 years old from both urban and rural locales. Rural participants were recruited from Cañete Province in the southern Lima region of Peru, and urban participants were recruited from Lima, the capital city of Peru. Over 1,900 adults participated in the baseline data collection sweep between 2005 and 2006. Approximately 75% of participants came from the urban recruitment location. Participants were followed up with between 2009 and again between 2015 and 2016.
