Sample details

This birth cohort began as an epidemiological study of perinatal health in the city of Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. Baseline data were collected from nearly 7,000 individuals in 1978 and 1979, and the participants have been followed up for 37 to 39 years to monitor the evolution of socioeconomic status, health, and nutrition. Follow-ups have been conducted in 1987 to 1989 when children were aged 8 to 11 years, in 1996 and 1997 with male participants who were aged 18 to 19 years and evaluated during military enlistment, and between 2002 and 2004 when participants were aged 23 to 25 years. The last follow-up occurred in 2016 and 2017, and assessed 1,775 subjects aged 37 to 39 years.
