Sample details

50YMG investigated coronary risk factors and the development of coronary heart disease using cohorts of men in Sweden. In 1963, the study recruited 855 men aged 50 from the Swedish population register. New cohorts of 50-year-old men living in Gothenburg were recruited every ten years until 2013. In 2003 and 2013, cohorts of 50-year-old women living in Gothenburg were recruited. In 1973 and 1980, 30-year-old sons to the cohort of men recruited in 1963 were also recruited. A total of 4,503 individuals participated in this study. All participants were followed up regularly until death or until December 31, 2021.
