The Airwave Study investigates the possible health risks associated with the use of Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA), a digital communication system used by the police force, and has broadened to investigate more generally the health and social outcomes of working in the police force in Great Britain. Between 2004 and 2015, the study recruited approximately 53,000 employees of police forces and police-related agencies in Great Britain. Participants are followed up through health screening as well as linkage, and subsets of the cohort have participated in additional research studies.
