AACORE investigates transitions from normal ageing to mild cognitive decline (MCI) and dementia in African American populations in the United States of America. The study recruits participants who self-identify as African American and are aged at least 65 years from Chicago, Illinois and its surrounding area. Participants with and without dementia are welcomed into the study. Between 2008 and 2009, 132 participants enrolled in the study. As of 2024, the study includes over 400 participants. As part of the study, participants are given the option to consent to brain donation after death. As of 2024, 84 autopsies of donated brains have been conducted.
