The main focus of the AIIMS Cohort Study (ACS), also know as ‘A Population Based Prospective Cohort Study to Unravel the Causes of Stroke and Cognitive Decline: A Cross-Cultural Perspective’, is on investigating factors underlying stroke and dementia in a sample of men and women aged 50 years and over from India. In this cohort study, 7,500 “apparently healthy” participants from rural and 7,500 from urban population were recruited and have been followed up over a period of at least 8 years.
