This study aimed to identify transitions in the functional status (FS) of older adults and to assess the influence of physical performance, depression, and cognitive impairment at baseline, and their changes over time, on FS decline. The 'Ageing in Peñagrande' study is a component cohort within the European Project on OSteoArthritis (EPOSA), which is a collaborative, harmonised analysis of existing population-based cohort studies focused on ageing and osteoarthritis. This study included a population-based cohort with 814 persons aged 65 or over, recruited in January 2008 via primary care hospitals in Madrid, Spain. Approximately 600 of these participants were followed up after 4 years in December 2011, when the study ended.
