The aim of the AHAP is to investigate the health status and geriatric medical problems including falling and cognitive impairment of older people in Amirkola, Iran. All people in Amirkola aged 60 years and over were invited to participate in this study. The baseline stage of this project was conducted in 2011 and 2012, and follow-up surveys have been completed every 2 years. The mean age of men (70.0 years) was slightly higher than women (69.7) at baseline, most participants were aged 60 to 69 years, and the majority were illiterate.
