Sample details

The ALSOP cohort is drawn from Australian participants in the ASprin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) clinical trial who were invited to participate in the ALSOP sub-study in 2012. Almost 15,000 initially healthy adults, aged 70 years and over, have completed questionnaires focusing on a broad range of general health, lifestyle, behavioural, social, economic and environmental factors relevant to healthy ageing. Within the ALSOP cohort, 55% are female, 24.4% were born outside of Australia, and 2% are current smokers. The mean age and sex distribution of the ALSOP cohort is similar to the wider ASPREE cohort from which they were drawn.
