The AMD2000 study was a prospective, multicenter, 5-year observational cohort study involving 460 Japanese patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), recruited from 18 clinical sites across Japan. Participants were recruited between April 2006 and March 2009, undergoing comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and multimodal imaging. The study was initiated to examine treatment efficacy, visual prognosis, and predictive factors of visual outcomes in patients. The cohort predominantly consisted of older adults, with ages ranging from 51 to 93 years, and only included those with treatment-naive AMD. Participants were followed up regularly over the 5-year period, with data collected through follow-up visits involving visual acuity measurements, imaging studies, and clinical evaluations.
