AMP Up is an ongoing long-term study of young adults aged 18 years and older who were born to a mother living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is designed to define the impact of HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy (ART) on young adults with perinatal HIV infection as they transition into adulthood. A group of perinatally exposed but uninfected young adults from a similar sociodemographic background and age distribution were included for comparison. The researchers plan to enroll 700 young adults living with perinatal HIV (PHIV) and 250 who were perinatally HIV-exposed but uninfected (PHEU). The sample includes individuals who were previously enrolled in the AMP and SMARTT protocols, as well as other perinatally infected individuals.
