The AMR is intended to help the Australian Government develop policies to best deal with the asbestos still present in Australia's buildings and environment, with the aim of reducing mesothelioma in the future. Participants include all consenting patients diagnosed with mesothelioma in Australia since 1 July 2010 who are physically and mentally able to participate, around 10,000 people. Baseline questionnaire and interview data are collected, and participants are followed longitudinally through linked mortality and cancer registries.
