The objectives of the ATTICA study are to record the distribution of several bio-clinical cardiovascular disorder (CVD) risk factors in a sample of Greek adult men and women, as well as explore the associations between these factors with several socio-economic, lifestyle, and psychological characteristics. From May 2001 to December 2002, 1,514 adult men and 1,528 adult women were enrolled, stratified by age and gender based on the 2000 census, from the greater area of Athens. After the baseline sweep, there were two follow-up examinations. In 2006, the ATTICA investigators performed the intermediate 5-year follow-up, and during 2011-12 they performed the 10-year follow-up.
