The Bachpan Cohort is a prospective pregnancy–birth cohort designed to investigate the effects of depression on socio-emotional development of children. The cohort includes a baseline sample of pregnant women (584 non-depressed and 570 depressed) living in Rawalpindi, Pakistan in 40 village clusters that comprise the rural sub-district of Kallar Syedan. The sample was recruited between October 2014 and February 2016. The average age of new mothers was 26.7 at baseline with an average of 7.7 years of educational attainment. A subsample was included of mother–child dyad DNA and inflammatory biomarkers (73 and 104, respectively).
