Sample details

BASIC aims to investigate women's well-being during and after pregnancy and discover the reasons why some women fare worse than others during pregnancy or after childbirth. From 2009 to 2018, the study recruited 16- to 18-week pregnant women, aged at least 18 years, who planned to give birth at Uppsala University Hospital in Uppsala, Sweden. Over 5,000 women have participated in the BASIC study, with over 800 women participating with two or more pregnancies. Participants were followed up at 32 weeks, delivery, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year postpartum. Participants and their children are followed until 6 years post-birth through a separate study called The U-BIRTH study.
