The BasicSx study is a longitudinal cohort project based in Quebec, Canada, designed to examine whether neurodevelopmental abnormalities in self-consciousness function as potential endophenotypes for major psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and recurrent major depression. The study has enrolled over 180 participants beginning in November 2018, recruited from the general population, volunteer enrollment, and prior research initiatives (INTERCEPT – PHASE 1 and Bipso) within the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale region. The cohort comprises children, adolescents, and young adults, emphasising individuals with a familial risk for psychiatric disorders alongside healthy controls. It also includes adults with diagnosed major psychiatric disorders and healthy adult controls. Follow-up assessments are planned three and six years after baseline for offspring, while adult participants are invited to participate in an optional second assessment.
