Established in 2020, the BEACON study investigates the role of executive function (EF) in conduct disorders, violence and risky behaviours in adolescence to understand the potential of executive function as an intervention target in optimising behavioural interventions. The cohort includes 1,300 adolescents and their parents in Soweto, South Africa, who have been repeatedly assessed when the adolescents are aged 11 to 13 years.
