The aim of BePaiD was to provide good quality research evidence on the impact of acute hospital admission on people with dementia in England, United Kingdom. Patients were recruited through hospital accident and emergency admissions before transfer to elderly care or medical wards. All patients were aged 70 years and above had an unplanned acute medical admission, as well as an Abbreviated Mental Test Score (AMTS) of 7 or lower out of 10. From these patients, a delirium test was administered. Those who were not delirious were assessed with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and those with a score of 24 or lower were included in the study.
