The Birmingham COPD Cohort Study started in 2012 as part of The Birmingham Lung Improvement StudieS (BLISS). Between 2012 and 2014, over 2,000 participants aged 40 years and above were recruited from 71 general practices across the West Midlands, United Kingdom. The cohort is comprised of three patient groups: those with diagnosed COPD; those previously undiagnosed patients with respiratory symptoms and airflow obstruction; and symptomatic patients with normal lung function.
