Sample details

The BOLD I cohort was comprised of around 30,000 participants from 41 different countries for 13 years, and collected baseline data from 2003 to 2016. Between 2019 and 2021, the BOLD II study was carried out, following up with almost 6,500 participants from 18 of the original sites. The majority of sites were based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The participants were aged over 40 years at recruitment, with approximately 53% being female.
