A biobank was established in Northern Finland by Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District, the University of Oulu, NordLab, and the hospital/healthcare districts of Lapland, Länsi-Pohja, Central Ostrobothnia, and Kainuu. The Borealis Biobank of Northern Finland is part of the FinnGen biobank consortium. Adults can give consent and approval to be included in the biobank through an online consent form, or a postal approval document. Between the years of 1979 and 2013, 1,800,000 tissue samples had been collected and added to the Borealis Biobank of Northern Finland.
