Boston RISE was a prospective cohort study of 430 primary care patients, aged 65 years and older, living within a 10-mile radius from and receiving primary care at either Massachusetts General Hospital or Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, who were at risk for declining mobility and disability at baseline. The study was designed to better understand the predictors for mobility decline and investigate the combinations of neuromuscular impairments related to mobility decline and disability. Follow-up assessments following the same structure were conducted at 12 and 24 months post baseline data collection, and an extension study included follow-ups at 36 and 48 months. The average age of participants at baseline was 77 years and 32.3% were male.
