BPS tracks students' paths through postsecondary education institutions located in the 50 states of the United States of America, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, and helps answer questions of policy interest. The cohorts for each BPS study are drawn from the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS). Students are surveyed beginning in their first year of postsecondary education and followed up at the end of their third and sixth years after entry into postsecondary education. BPS: 12/17 followed a cohort of 2011-2012 first-time beginning students in their first, third, and sixth year since entering college. Of the total sample, around 22,000 completed a full, abbreviated, or partial survey.
