The BRHS cohort is a population-based sample of over 7,500 men that investigates the occurrence and determinants of both individual and geographic variation in cardiovascular disease. Participants were recruited from single general practices in 24 British towns across England, Scotland, and Wales, representing all major British regions at the time. Commencing between 1978 and 1980, when participants were aged 40 to 59 years, the study has since followed the cohort for over 40 years.
