Sample details

BTLS followed a cohort of first-year teachers for 5 years to understand the impact of life events on teacher careers. Participants of all ages who were starting their first year of teaching were recruited in 2007 from across the United States of America to answer the 2007–08 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS). This formed the first wave of data collection for BTLS. In total, over 1,900 teacher participated in the study. Participants were followed up annually for 5 years.
