Sample details

The BWHHS was established in 1999 and aimed to complement the British Regional Heart Study by exploring risk factors for heart disease in women and comparing them with those in men. Between 1999 and 2000, the study recruited women aged 60 to 79 years from 23 towns in England, Scotland and Wales (United Kingdom). More than 4,200 women participated in the baseline data collection sweep. Further data was collected from participants in 2003, 2007 and 2010. Participants were followed up via GP medical records in 2003, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2017.
