Cafcass Wales collects and maintains administrative records for all public family law cases in Wales and represents the interests of children and young people in the family courts. The service draws on a range of administrative data sources, including court and healthcare records, as well as interviews with individuals involved with families and young people. The combined Cafcass England and Wales dataset was first established in 2001, with Cafcass Wales becoming a separate dataset in 2005. The Cafcass Wales data include 12,745 public law applications recorded between 2011 and 2019, and 52,023 private law applications between 2005 and 2019.
