The California Farmer Health Study is a population-based survey that includes almost 2,000 California farm operators, focusing on respiratory symptoms and dust exposure. Participants were recruited in 1993 through a random sample from the California Agricultural Statistics Service (CASS) list, targeting Primary Farm Operators (PFOs) responsible for day-to-day farm decisions. Respondents completed a computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) and were surveyed on demographics, farm characteristics, and health. The cohort mostly consists of white males and includes a mix of educational backgrounds and farming types. Repeat interviews were conducted in 1998 and 2004.
