Sample details

CANDLE is an observational, longitudinal cohort research study of families in Shelby County, Tennessee, in the United States of America. The study began by enrolling 1,503 pregnant women between 2006 and 2011, and it is continuing to follow these mothers and their children. Women between 16 and 40 years old who were living in Memphis/Shelby County and had a singleton pregnancy were recruited from a university obstetric clinic or community obstetric practices. Participants were contacted every 3 to 6 months by telephone, email, or social media. CANDLE also holds a biorepository containing over 185,000 specimen aliquots.
