The Care Register for Health Care, formerly known as the Finnish Hospital Discharge Register (FHDR), is one of the oldest individual level hospital discharge registers covering an entire country in the world. The Register contains nationwide linkable data on all inpatient hospital discharges with a personal identification code in Finland since 1969, and data has been intensively used in health research. Since 1956, various kinds of samples have been collected, and since 1967, full nationwide collection has been continuous. In 2010, the register had over 1.2 million discharge records.
