CARLA is a study based in the city of Halle within eastern Germany, aiming to assess risk factors of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Participants were selected through sub-random sampling of the city's population registry, with 967 males and 812 female participants being selected at baseline. The participants have been followed-up twice since baseline, 4 and 8 years later, with a re-participation of 86% and 77% of the population, respectively.
