CAS is a prospective birth cohort study that investigated the environmental determinants of childhood allergies and asthma. The cohort included 835 healthy, full-term infants born between 1987 and 1989 to women living in an area of northern, suburban Detroit, United States. The children were followed up annually until age 6-7 years, and a further follow-up was conducted at age 18.
