The CBM study aims to identify overlaps in major psychiatric disorders by examining clinical, brain imaging, neurophysiological, and neuropsychological measures, as well as clinical histories across disorders. Participants are patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction, and Alzheimer’s dementia, along with their unaffected first-degree relatives and healthy controls. Over 2,800 participants from 850 families with multiple affected members were recruited from the clinical services of the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, India. The study also recruited 300 healthy controls. Baseline assessment began in 2016, and participants are followed up every two years. CBM is also building a comprehensive biorepository of biological samples and data (including phenotypic, genomic, and cellular information) to support long-term research.
