Sample details

The CCHS aims to assess the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and stroke, and the impact of factors like exercise on longevity. Participants of the study include a random sample of almost 15,000 individuals aged 20 to 93 years living within ten wards surrounding Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen. Following the initial examination, 21.7% of the participants have been assessed at all 4 follow-ups, including assessments conducted in 1981 to 1983, 1991 to 1994, and 2001 to 2003. Follow-ups of participants have continued, with ongoing linkage to national health registries ensuring the possibility of future assessments.
