The CFPS is a nationally representative, biennial longitudinal survey of Chinese communities, families, and individuals designed to collect individual-, family-, and community-level longitudinal data in contemporary China. Participants were recruited from 25 provinces, namely Shanghai, Liaoning, Henan, Gansu, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Guangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tianjin, Beijing, Chongqing, and Shaanxi, resulting in a nationally representative sample at baseline. At baseline, the CFPS consisted of nearly 15,000 households in 635 communities, totaling 42,590 participants.
