CHARLS is a nationally representative longitudinal survey of Chinese residents ages 45 and older. The baseline national wave of CHARLS conducted in 2011 includes around 17,500 individuals from 10,000 households within 150 counties/districts and 450 villages/resident committees in China. The individuals are followed up every two years.
