This study aimed to create evidence relating to the typical profile of acute psychological recovery post-trauma in children from high-risk communities. The participants of this study were children aged 8 to 16 years old, as well as their caregivers, recruited from the Emergency Department at the Khayelitsha Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. The participants were first assessed within 2 weeks of experiencing a traumatic event and followed up at 3 months and 6 months.
