The participants of the Chililab HDSS are based in the Chi Linh town of northern Vietnam, and includes approximately 18,000 households. The participants were followed up approximately every three months until 2009, and twice a year since 2009. Participants were included if they intended to live within the area for three or more months. In 2010, around 48% of the participants were male.
