The CLAS was developed to better understand the impact of ageing on cognition and mental health in a sample of Chinese individuals over the age of 60 years. Males comprised 42.2% of the sample, and the mean age was 72.8 years. Han Chinese, the predominant ethnic group in mainland China, accounted for 99.7% of the sample; 98.9% of the sample was retired; and 96.3% lived in the city of Shanghai. On average, participants had 7.74 years of education, and 63.7% of them had worked in some form of manual labor.
