The CHDSS was first established in 2010 by Chókwè Health Research and Training Center (CITSC). The population under surveillance includes around 100,000 inhabitants in over 20,000 households throughout Chókwè city and several surrounding neighbourhood villages, representing approximately half of the population in Chókwè District, Mozambique. Households have been followed up yearly since 2010, providing demographic and vital events surveillance data.
