The Civil Service Workers Study aimed to explore associations between lifestyle factors and diseases such as cancers, circulatory diseases and other life-threatening events. In 1989, baseline data were collected from over 18,000 civil service workers in Nagoya, Japan. Participants were followed up for retirement and mortality during active service until 1995.
