The CMCS investigates the lifetime risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a Chinese population. Beginning in 1992, the study recruited participants aged 35 to 64 years, free of CVD, from 16 collaborating centres in 11 provinces across China. At baseline, over 27,000 participants were included in the cohort. Participants from 6 of the 11 provinces were re-examined from 2007 to 2008 and followed up until 2018.
