CogFAST aimed to examine changes in brain function following stroke. The study recruited over 350 older adults (aged 75 years and above) from stroke registers in Tyneside and Wearside, North East England, United Kingdom. Participants were eligible if they were within three months post-stroke, had no prior diagnosis of dementia or significant physical illness, and were able to provide informed consent. Baseline assessments took place between 1999 and 2003, with follow-ups conducted three months post-stroke and then annually for up to eight years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed at the three-month and two-year assessments. The study concluded in 2012.
