COAST is a longitudinal study of patients with ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA), aged 21 years and over, who were receiving stroke neurology services at the National University Health System (NUHS) of Singapore. Between 2009 and 2011, the study recruited 400 clinically stable non-aphasic patients who experienced a stroke and TIA within two weeks of recruitment. Patients were followed up at 3-6 months, 1 year, 5 years, 6 years, and 7 years after stroke.
