The Collaborative study is one of four separate cardiorespiratory cohort studies that were carried out in Scotland, United Kingdom, in the 1960s and 1970s, known collectively as the Midspan studies. The Collaborative Study cohort included around 6,000 men and 1,000 women of working age who were recruited from 27 workplaces throughout the central belt of Scotland, in 1970-1973. Between 4 and 7 years after the initial screening, in 1977, participants were followed up with the same questionnaire and physical examinations as at baseline. Participants have also been followed up for around 30 years via linkage to morbidity and mortality registers.
