COMPASS is a population-based longitudinal study of over 7,500 adult residents in Chicago, United States of America, commencing in May 2013. COMPASS utilised a variety of recruitment strategies, including a two-stage cluster sampling approach, with randomisation from census data followed by identification of eligible individuals using commercially available address lists. Additional untargeted community-based recruitment utilised methods such as mobile medical units and collaboration with community partners such as non-profit organizations. Lastly, individuals were recruited from the University of Chicago Medicine research clinic.
