The CARE Consortium Longitudinal Study aims to assess the 6-month natural history of concussion. As of Fall 2016, over 23,000 student-athletes and military service academy students from 30 sites across the United States of America had been enrolled into the study. This sample consisted of 13,720 males and 9,813 females. All consenting participants receive an annual pre-season/baseline assessment, with several assessments following concussion diagnosis: within 6 hours of injury; within 24-48 hours of injury; when the student athlete has been cleared to begin the return-to-play progression; when the student athlete has been cleared for unrestricted return to play; and 6 months post-concussion.
