The Copenhagen Allergy studies (Allergy90 and Allergy97) were initiated to estimate incidence, prevalence, time trends, risk factors, and comorbidities of allergic diseases, including objective measurements of allergy. In 1989, randomly selected individuals aged between 15 and 70 years were sent a short questionnaire regarding allergic respiratory symptoms. A randomly selected group from the respondents and a group reporting symptoms of allergic respiratory diseases were also invited to participate in a health examination. In 1997, participants from the baseline study (Allergy90) were invited to a re-examination and included in the Allergy97 study. Additionally, a new sample of individuals aged between 15 and 42 years responded to a questionnaire identical to the one from Allergy90, and were invited to a health examination.
