The COPSACSEVERE cohort is a register-based cohort of children with asthma who were identified and characterized from national health registries across Denmark. This cohort comprises children with recurrent hospitalizations due to severe asthma exacerbations during the first 6 years of life. Children with repeated acute hospitalizations (cases) were identified in the Danish National Patient Register, covering all diagnoses of discharges from Danish hospitals. All participants had at least two acute hospitalizations for asthma from 2 to 6 years of age (both years included). The duration of hospitalization was more than 1 day for all participants, and two hospitalizations had to be separated by at least 6 months to be included in the cohort.
