The Cork and Kerry Diabetes and Heart Disease Study aims to assess the role of lifestyle factors towards the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and risk of diabetes. Participants include a multi-cohort sample, whereby the first cohort, recruited in 1998 from practices across counties Cork and Kerry in Ireland, consisted of 1,018 individuals. A second cohort, known as the Mitchelstown cohort, was recruited in 2010 from the clinic in Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland, with 2,047 participants, all aged 50-69. Data has been collected through baseline assessments, with the first cohort followed up 10 years later in 2008, while the second cohort had follow-up visits 5 years later in 2015.
